PRESS: Russia’s Lukoil seeks license for new Baltic Sea shelf area
MOSCOW, Dec 22 (PRIME) -- Russian oil producer Lukoil has asked the government to hold an auction for a license for works at the Nadezhda block on the Baltic Sea shelf in 2017, business daily Kommersant reported on Thursday, citing sources in the industry.
Only state companies have access to shelf drilling but Nadezhda is located inside a 12-mile zone, which is qualified as territorial waters, and can be given away under a government decision.
CEO of Lukoil Vagit Alekperov said that the auction participants must be registered in the Kaliningrad Region and have experience of field development in the region. If the conditions are included in the auction terms, Lukoil will be the only company complying with them.
